Where do field instructors stay on site?

When on site overnight, field instructors stay in bunked cabins with other WOODS staff. Field instructors have shared bathroom facilities not used by students.

Can I be a field instructor While taking classes?

Field instructors have more flexibility in their daily schedule that can be used to complete schoolwork and correspond with professors. A staff on site may serve as a proctor for exams. WOODS can act as an internship or practicum location and can be a setting to implement capstone projects or other academic projects. Based on university policy, field instruction can also earn students class credit.

Do Field instructors build their own curriculum?

Western Oregon Outdoor School utilizes a core curriculum that aligns with Oregon Department of Education’s science standards. Field instructors utilize this core curriculum to guide students through inquiry-based lessons and learn alongside them. Though field instructors are not required to build curriculum for students, there are opportunities for instructors to integrate their passions and interests into “instructor’s choice” lessons for some programs.
